Neck Lift & Jawline Contouring

Define your profile with natural refinement

Refined, natural results that restore youthful definition — delivered by Board-certified facial plastic surgeons.

A neck lift smooths and tightens the skin and deeper tissues of the neck and under-chin area, restoring youthful definition to the lower face. It can be performed as a standalone procedure or alongside a facelift for more comprehensive rejuvenation.

At Hillser, every procedure is consultant-led and tailored to your facial anatomy. Our surgeons use advanced, evidence-based techniques to refine the jawline and neck contours with precision while ensuring results remain natural, proportionate, and long-lasting.

What the procedure involves

A neck lift is usually carried out under general anaesthetic, although local anaesthetic with sedation may also be used.

  • Small, discreet incisions are placed around the ears and sometimes beneath the chin.

  • Excess fat and loose tissue are removed or repositioned.

  • The platysma muscles of the neck are tightened to restore structure and smoothness.

  • Skin is gently redraped to define a jawline contour, and fine sutures are used for closure.

In some cases, a hidden incision beneath the chin allows the surgeon to refine deeper structures, following the same principles as advanced deep-plane techniques. This approach produces a smooth, natural neckline while maintaining a balanced transition between the face and neck.

Benefits

Improves jawline definition and reduces the appearance of jowls.

Smooths and tightens sagging or excess neck skin, often described as “turkey neck”.

Corrects under-chin fullness (“double chin”) and restores a youthful profile.

Can be combined with a facelift for a complete lower-face rejuvenation.

Achieves long-lasting results that age naturally over time.

Recovery and aftercare

Initial recovery takes about two weeks, with most swelling and bruising subsiding in this period. Light activities can usually be resumed after 10–14 days, though more strenuous exercise should be avoided for at least four weeks.

You may experience mild tightness or numbness as the tissues heal. Our nursing team provides comprehensive post-operative guidance, including wound care, sleeping position, and gradual return to routine.

Final results emerge as residual swelling settles, revealing a smoother neck contour and sharper jawline. The improvement is long-lasting, though the natural ageing process continues.

Consultation and Candidacy

Your consultation with a Hillser consultant facial surgeon includes a detailed assessment of your neck, jawline, and overall facial balance. We discuss your goals, review your medical history, and outline the most suitable approach for your anatomy.

The quality and longevity of results are influenced by individual factors including skin elasticity, tissue volume, ethnic background and underlying bone structure — all of which are assessed carefully at consultation.

Ideal candidates for a neck lift are in good health, have realistic expectations, and wish to improve loose or sagging skin beneath the jawline. For some, a combined facelift-and-neck-lift offers the most seamless outcome.

 FAQs

  • The procedure refines the neck and jawline by tightening muscles, removing excess skin, and sculpting underlying fat for a smoother, youthful contour.

  • Yes. Many patients choose an isolated neck lift if their primary concern is skin laxity or fullness under the chin. Your consultant will advise whether combining procedures may offer a more balanced result.

  • Most patients return to work after two weeks. Swelling and mild bruising are normal and typically resolve over three to four weeks. A supportive garment may be recommended during early recovery.

  • Complications are rare but may include bruising, bleeding, infection, or minor irregularities. These are discussed in detail during consultation.

  • Results are long-lasting and typically measured in years rather than months—and age naturally. Maintaining a stable weight and healthy lifestyle helps prolong the outcome.

It is worth noting that patients with stronger underlying bone structure typically achieve more defined and durable results. In all cases, some gradual softening beneath the chin may occur as a natural part of ageing.

  • We can usually offer appointments within just a few days. Diagnostics and any procedures are coordinated promptly at our partner hospitals in London and the South East.
